Law of Aether Buoyancy
One of the physical laws fundamentally governing the world of Aetheria. Defines the physical principles by which Aether Crystals float and depletion conditions.

How Buoyancy Energy Works
One of the physical laws fundamentally governing the world of Aetheria. Aether Crystals store "buoyancy energy" within them; this energy counteracts gravity and produces levitation.
Dead Stones and the Great Fall Threshold
Buoyancy energy recovers very slowly in its natural state but is rapidly consumed by refinement, mining, and large-scale magical practice. Depleted Aether Crystals turn into plain gray rock, thereafter becoming "dead stones" that no longer possess buoyancy. Dead stones never recover their buoyancy.
The Natural Law Called Accumulation Effect
The Great Fall Research Institute has concluded that when the proportion of dead stones within a region exceeds a certain amount, the weight balance of the entire floating island begins to collapse — this is the fundamental cause of The Great Fall. Currently, precision measurement of the Law of Aether Buoyancy is the Institute's most important research challenge, attempting to calculate the threshold of "how much more mining will trigger a Second Great Fall."
Additionally, Aether Crystals show a property of "cooperative buoyancy" with each other. When multiple stones are in proximity, a "accumulation effect" occurs that amplifies each other's buoyancy — the larger the island they form, the higher the buoyancy efficiency of individual stones. This is also why larger islands are stable in The Canopy Isles while smaller fragments fall into The Mist Sea.
The Mysterious Relationship Between Emotion and Aether
The Law of Aether Buoyancy has a phenomenon called "resonance limit." When an island's area exceeds a certain size, the accumulation effect reverses and buoyancy actually decreases. This is why The Canopy Isles cannot grow infinitely large, and the physical basis for why the 12 major islands exist dispersed. The Refiners' Guild has technology to finely adjust island altitude by exploiting the resonance limit — this is the Guild's most important practical technology.
The most mysterious aspect of the Law of Aether Buoyancy is its relationship with emotion. Locations where strong collective emotions — especially fear or anger — arise show temporary decreases in Aether Crystal buoyancy. Records also exist of buoyancy increasing at Grand Lichtgesang Festival venues. If there is a physical correlation between emotion and Aether buoyancy, the appearance of Great Fall omens linked to emotional social unrest may not be coincidental.
The Root Realm's Inverse Stones function as the "mirror image" of the Law of Aether Buoyancy. If the same law operates in positive and negative directions, the relationship between this world's gravity and Aether may have not a simple opposition but a more complex symmetric structure.
